The steps of Dénia's Town Hall were the scene of an unusual and visually striking event this Tuesday. The well-known artist and media personality Arkano led a demonstration, organized by the international organization PETA, to demand the definitive abolition of [unspecified]. Good morning. I wasn't born here, but I live here. I like bullfighting, or tauromachy, because of its tradition and constant regulation. While I acknowledge the inherent cruelty, I also admire the other aspects: the bravery, the artistry, and the aesthetics; all in perfect harmony. I couldn't like it if I only saw the cruelty; I would consider myself a bad person.
But the regulation of this national spectacle, the information and dissemination of all its components—from the care and selection of a breed of animal (which no longer exists), to its care, attention, and pampering with special affection, and the people with passion and artistry committed to creating an aesthetic pairing with the bull—elevates the animal to the status of the main actor, even engaging with the tragedy of the finale where the human must relieve the suffering of not having managed to kill its opponent. These elements compose this work of art, which is the bullfight, as a national festival.
I repeat, I respect and understand that many people only see the cruel side, which does exist. They justify their opposition to the festival.
I ask these people to also respect the followers of the tradition, which I believe should not be lost.
As for the "bous a la mar" (bulls to the sea), I DON'T LIKE THEM. From what I've read, they don't correspond to a tradition, since those bulls are meant for bullfights, as was the custom, I believe, in the 17th century... modified in the 20th century with a cruel twist, justified by an accident during the unloading of the cattle, which they insist on repeating annually by throwing them into the sea like grotesque toys, thus diminishing the dignity of the animal.

The bulls are not treated with affection before the unequal fight. They are dehydrated, tormented by having their testicles tied, beaten, having Vaseline rubbed roughly into their eyes to distort focus. The slow torture of the bull, is a sadistic practice which has nothing to do with beauty and culture. It is brutal and ignorant, the fact that the C Church does not condemn it immediately reflects the moral decay and decline of that institution. The bull is terrified, alone and suffers agony; your enjoyment of this reflects exactly what type of person you are….
