23 March 2018 - 07: 25

The Costa Blanca Tourist Board will collaborate with the Tennis Federation of the Valencian Community (FTCV) in the development of an important circuit of international tournaments that will take place in different municipalities of the province. This has been agreed by the president of the Diputación de Alicante, César Sánchez, and the president of the FTCV, Antonio Martínez Cascales, during the work meeting that both held in the Provincial Palace.

El Costa Blanca Tennis Circuit, name of this sports project, includes more than a dozen tournaments of different categories and levels. The ATP Challenger Tour, the ITF Pro Circuit, the ITF Junior and Senior or the Tennis Europe Junior Tour are some of the competitions included in this proposal, which will be held in locations such as Villena, Xàbia, Dénia, Alicante or Benidorm and that has the backing of professional tennis players of the likes of David Ferrer and Juan Carlos Ferrero.

Sanchez, who explained that this collaboration will be articulated through an agreement that will be signed in the coming weeks, has indicated that "Our challenge is that in the province is always high season, that is, we have tourists of all kinds during the 365 days of the year with the aim of ensuring job security for workers in the sector and generate welfare. Hence, the commitment of the Diputación de Alicante for major events linked to sports such as football, basketball, cycling, golf or now tennis".

In this sense, the president of the FTCV has stated that "tennis is a very important sport for our province that attracts a large number of people from Europe and Asia every year. Its link with tourism can have important benefits for our economy and, therefore, we want to strengthen it".

During the meeting, which also participated the deputy of Tourism Promotion, Eduardo Dolón, it became clear the importance that this discipline has on the Costa Blanca, where there are currently more than seventy tennis clubs and near 3.000 licenses.
