El Montgó and Bassetes will renew their public lighting this week

20 March 2023 - 14: 31

The replacement of the Montgó public lighting by the company SITELEC Global Servicios y Obras will begin tomorrow. The initiative aims to move from the sodium halogen model to the LED model for reasons of economic efficiency and sustainability.

The change will affect a total of 5.569 lampposts and 341 points of light at municipal sports facilities. The replacement of the Montgó solar streetlights will take place between Tuesday and Wednesday, while the actions in the Bassetes area will focus between Thursday and Friday.

This has been explained by the area manager of the concessionary company, Guillem Romero, during the visit of the mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, the councilor for Territory and Urban Quality, Maria Josep Ripoll, and the Councilor for Finance, Personnel, Modernization and Economic Promotion, Paco Roselló, to the 'Caravan of light', located on the site of the old ambulatory of the Calle Marques de Campo.

Romero has pointed out the repercussion that the actions will have on the city, always aimed at reducing pollution, both related to CO2 emissions and light, in addition to maximizing spending cuts.

The operation of the 'Caravan of light' has also been explained. The vehicle, installed today, will remain parked on the site until Friday, March 24, and its function will be to advise citizens on how to make their electricity bill profitable, as well as share the benefits of switching to the LED model.

The consultations are completely free, without the need for a prior appointment and with free access in the following schedules:

  • Monday March 20: 12:00 to 14:00 and 16:00 to 19:00.
  • Tuesday 21, Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23: 10:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m. and 16:00 p.m. to 19:00 p.m.
  • Friday March 24: 10:00 a.m. to 14:00 p.m.

SITELEC actions

The contract with the energy company, awarded for a period of 15 years, will mean a reduction in municipal electricity consumption by some 2.455.000 kilowatts/hour. To which must be added, according to the data provided by the concessionaire itself, the reduction of polluting gas emissions into the atmosphere by 635 tons of carbon dioxide. The company and the Town Hall seek to reduce light pollution, while reinforcing lighting at points where it is required for reasons of safety and accessibility.

On the other hand, the adaptation of 197 control panels is planned through the installation of remote management systems for the optimization of time and resources; This will materialize in more direct control of the control panels, which will mean a faster response to emergencies or specific needs related to the city's lighting.
