Dénia Hospital presents the Crepitantes exhibition, a work on Cystic Fibrosis

On the occasion of World Cystic Fibrosis Day, the Hospital de Dénia opens the exhibition Crackles, by the artist Elisa González García, plastic artist, illustrator and cystic fibrosis patient.

Crackles is an artistic project on cystic fibrosis that seeks to make the disease visible and improve the relationship and adherence to treatment of patients who suffer from it. This project tries to expand the imaginary of the disease through characteristic iconography of the ailment, such as mucus, and using elements such as humor, color and fun.

Crackles serves as a positive and optimistic meeting point with cystic fibrosis, tries to improve the experience of patients through new representations of the disease, and is a platform for dissemination of this rare disease from the field of culture .

The sample represents the daily life of cystic fibrosis. According to Elisa González, the proposal is developed as a form of self-care. "In this artistic project, everything related to the disease can be represented plastically, and the illustrations are characterized by the presence of the figure of mucus as a companion of life that must be accepted and loved," she explains.

A disease that affects thousands of people in Spain

In Spain, according to the Spanish Federation of Cystic Fibrosis, this chronic and degenerative disease affects some 2.500 people. Its diagnosis is usually early, before the age of 18, 92 percent of patients are already identified.
