The Hospital of Dénia launches a new consultation of fibromyalgia

El Hospital de Dénia has just launched a consultation on Fibromyalgia, Multiple Chemical Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue, dependent on the Rehabilitation Unit. This is the third consultation of this ailment that is activated in the Valencian Community after those of Sant Vicent del Raspeig and Alzira, and will be attended by Dr. Vicente Palop, a national reference in the specialty.

Dr. Palop participated in the development of the Fibromyalgia Guide published by the Ministry of Health. He also collaborates actively with the CSIC and has participated in the documentary, "Consulta 32" which addresses, from the point of view of narrative medicine, the stigma of patients suffering from this disease.

Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia or fibromyalgia syndrome is a disease that primarily affects women and is characterized by generalized, disabling and chronic pain (throughout the day and for life), along with the physical examination demonstration of previously defined points in those that the moderate pressure triggers pain, denominated sensitive points of the fibromialgia.

In addition, it is accompanied by a number of complex disorders among which are headache, irritable bladder, functional digestive disorders, dysmenorrhea, paresthesias, intolerance to thermal changes, intolerance to exercise, muscle weakness, persistent fatigue, stiffness, prolonged fatigue after mild or moderate exercise and not restful sleep; set of problems that condition in the majority of women carriers.

For Dr Palop Fibromyalgia "It is not a question of beliefs but of knowledge". In your opinion "The treatment of the pathology, which has many detractors in the medical profession, has to be carried out from the global approach of the disease, since it is a syndrome that cannot be parceled. Normally those affected are pluripatological patients to whom it is necessary treat them with a global vision ".
