The Hospital of Dénia introduces physiotherapy to improve the treatments of patients of the Pain Unit

27 September 2018 - 12: 23

El Hospital de Dénia has just introduced an important novelty that affects patients treated in the so-called Pain Unit. This is invasive physiotherapy, a technique that, in addition to reducing the delay, saves patients unnecessary circuits between the different services, reverberant consultations, or major interventional processes are avoided.

In the Pain Unit, patients with chronic pain are treated through the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, through facet radiofrequency, epidurals, transforaminal blocks or infiltrations.

For its part, the Physiotherapy Unit, which depends on the Rehabilitation Service, introduced two years ago invasive techniques, infrequent in public health such as percutaneous neuromodulation, electrolysis and dry needling. According to Dr. Marta Carrió, anesthesiologist, "Many of these procedures are complementary to those we perform in the operating room at the Pain Unit, so the introduction of physiotherapy is very beneficial for patients".

According to Mariano Martín Macho, Supervisor of Physiotherapy at Dénia Hospital "Patients with an indication of physiotherapy at the Unida del Dolor have a new therapeutic tool that favors the resolution of their pain process along with the techniques already used by anesthetists. These are techniques that have been carried out for some time at a private level with very good results that we consider interesting to incorporate into public health ".

It's a pity that doctors get rid of older patients with chronic pain by recommending yoga and swimming, having real problems
