The Dénia Hospital warns that, after a serious infection by COVID-19, biological drugs have to be restarted after a month

February 18 from 2021 - 13: 50

The Biological Committee of the Dénia Health Department -DSD- warns that chronic patients treated with biological drugs cannot resume their usual medication if they have had a serious COVID-19 infection, up to a month after testing negative in the PCR test.

These indications are aimed at patients who are being treated with biological drugs that act against Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis.

Unlike chemicals, biological drugs are large molecules made of proteins that are produced by living organisms. This type of medication includes antibodies, interleukins, and vaccines. The advantage of these treatments, compared to traditional treatments, is that they direct their action and preserve healthy cells.

The Biological Committee of the Department of Health of Dénia is a group of experts made up of specialists in Pharmacy, Dermatology, Digestive Medicine, Rheumatology, Allergology and Pulmonology.
