August 07 from 2018 - 06: 21

La Spanish Society of Cardiology has just accredited the process of atrial fibrillation Hospital de Dénia, along with other 9 hospitals throughout Spain. The certification supposes a guarantee of quality in the handling of this pathology, so much on the part of the Service of Cardiology of the hospital as of the precocious detection and treatment in Primary Attention.

According to the Head of Service, Alfonso Valle, "The role of Primary Care in the early detection, anticoagulant treatment and referral to the specialist has been fundamental in the accreditation of the atrial fibrillation process. The quality of the records in our HCE Electronic Medical Record has also been a point in favor, he adds Valle, since it allows us to collect in a form, with structured clinical information, all the relevant data of our patients and automatically transform them into a usual clinical note.In addition, the system also allows us to have “censored” the patients with this so frequent pathology ".

e-health in health centers for early detection

The Dénia Health Department has launched a pilot program for the early detection of atrial fibrillation in Primary Care. The initiative, which began last May at the El Verger Health Center, will be exported in the coming months to the rest of the health centers in the Marina Alta.
It is an app on which the patient placing the fingers and the application performs a derivation of the electrocardiogram with an immediate diagnosis of atrial fibrillation.

A common pathology among the elderly of 70

Atrial fibrillation is the most frequent arrhythmia and affects an 25% of the population older than 70 years. Early detection is essential to be able to apply treatment and thus avoid the formation of blood thrombi that can cause strokes or cerebral infarcts. In fact, according to the Head of Cardiology Service of the Dénia Hospital, about 35% of them have their origin in atrial fibrillation. We must remember that stroke is the leading cause of death in women in our country.

This process, together with heart failure, is the second certified by the Spanish Society of Cardiology at the Hospital de Dénia. According to Alfonso Valle, between both suppose the 50% of all the cardiac pathology that is seen in a hospital of the characteristics of Denia.
