The marine observation team captures the presence of a group of dolphins in Dénia

The marine observation team formed by personnel of the University of Valencia, the City Council of Dénia and the Department of Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition has carried out the first transect or sampling of the dianense coast of the 2020 campaign aboard the coastguard vessel of Denia The study area is the entire dianense coastline and the marine reserve of Cap de Sant Antoni.

These transects are made from the month of February with a minimum periodicity of once a month. In the operation water samples are taken to analyze and see the changes that occur in the different seasons of the year. Likewise, everything that happens during the tour related to whale watching and marine birds is recorded and the plastics found on the surface are collected.

This first outing has been a success and has allowed to register up to three groups of bottlenose dolphins off our coast. Two of them, because of their behavior, were possibly feeding a few meters away from the coast of Dénia. The third and most numerous sailed calmly to the north, next to the young. Numerous quotes from shearwaters and gannets were also noted.

Dénia is a reference place in terms of frequenting cetaceans, so it is important that people who do nautical recreational activities know protocol in case of sighting that regulates Royal Decree 1727/2007 of December 21, published in the BOE of January 12, 2008.
