Herick Campos, General Director of Tourism, visited the facilities of the CdT (Tourism Center) of Dénia this morning to check its status after the passage of the tornado last week. He has done it with the councilman Óscar Mengual and the councilor Melani Ivars.
Turisme Comunitat Valenciana has started this Monday the evaluation work of the beaches of the Valencian Community to implement, as soon as possible, a recovery plan after the passage of the DANA storm that has seriously affected the coastline in recent days. This analysis is being carried out by both the technicians of the corresponding area and the specialists from the tourist infrastructure maintenance companies.
Thus, the regional secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, has announced an action plan "to replace all affected elements as soon as possible". In this regard, he stressed that "Although it seems that the worst has already happened, we must still be cautious in this storm of heavy rains and strong wind that has affected us in recent days and that has caused serious damage in the Valencian Community, also in the coastal area".
Colomer has pointed out that "At the moment the damage has been concentrated in adjacent beaches and areas, but we have also suffered consequences in some of our buildings, such as the CDT of Dénia, which has not yet been able to resume its activity".
In fact, this Monday the director general of Tourism, Herick Campos, has made a visit to assess the damage to this infrastructure, in the same way that he has also moved to the coast of Xàbia to start a round of recognition and evaluation of damage.
"From Turisme Comunitat Valenciana we will develop a plan of actions to replace the affected elements and that our beaches can return to their original state as soon as possible", said Colomer, who also said that "In the case of the CDT, we will try to refer the activity to municipal facilities so that students can continue their training normally until we can correct the damage that, for security reasons, now prevents the occupation of the building".
Likewise, the directors of each of the CdT who are part of the Network of Tourism Centers have been requested to send the information and photographs of the most serious damages they have been able to detect in order to act as diligently as possible. In the case of beach elements, a protocol for identifying and assessing the damages caused by the storm has also been launched.
In this sense, the regional secretary has clarified that "The companies awarded the maintenance and repair service of their own items on the beaches of the three provinces (such as lavapiés and pumping stations, walkways, wastebaskets, playgrounds, dressing rooms, etc.) have already begun to verify on the ground, especially in those areas where the storm is terminated, to estimate the economic cost and the estimated time for repair or replacement ".
Therefore, he stressed that "We hope that in a short space of time we can have the first data, taking into account that, in our case, we must let a few days go by since runoff from the rains fallen in the pre-littoral can still cause the deterioration of more elements".
Finally, Colomer recalled that "As on other occasions when our coast has been affected by adverse weather events, from the Consell we have predetermined reaction tools that will allow us to perform a first global assessment and, from there, enable a procedure for municipalities to be catered".
Similarly, it has advanced that "Unfortunately, the data leads us to think that this type of event can be generalized in the coming years due to the effects of climate change, so we will continue working to implement tools linked to the Sustainable Development Goals, through the guide for tourist destinations that we have already developed, with the intention of advancing and protecting our coasts previously so as not to regret catastrophes like those experienced these days ".
