The Department of Health of Dénia -DSD- has created a multidisciplinary work team to carry out daily monitoring of the elderly residents in the 18 centers that exist in the Marina Alta.

The team, led by Dr. Pilar Muñoz and the nurse Mónica Sala, has managed to avoid outbreaks in nursing homes for the elderly as much as possible, both in the Emergency Service and in the hospital ward of the Dianense center.

It is a multidisciplinary group, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in which healthcare professionals from residences and the Pharmacy, Laboratory, Preventive Medicine, Logistics, Admission and Hospitalization Unit also collaborate. Home.

All of them are in charge of the surveillance, monitoring and care of more than a thousand residents and the 700 employees that exist among the 18 residences of the Marina Alta. They work closely with the professionals at the centers. They provide them with the necessary material to carry out pcr's in situ; in addition to hospital medication for their treatment and care.

In addition, establishing a constant work flow helps create interpersonal relationships that improve communication in both directions. "The residences receive direct information from the patients we have hospitalized and we know daily the evolution of the state of health of those who are in the centers for the elderly"says Dr. Muñoz.

Both Dr. Muñoz and Nurse Sala point out that they have been especially zealous in checking the nursing home employees, since "At the time of reincorporations after a vacation period, we have carried out a previous pcr test on all of them to minimize risks".

According to the Director of Primary Care, Dr. Antonio Barceló, "What began almost a year ago, being a provisional structure during the time of the pandemic, has come to stay, since it has been shown as a fundamental pillar in the control and care of the health of these patients". Barceló highlights the agility in response time, "Since if a positive case is detected in any of the residences, the group has all the necessary material ready to treat it quickly and carry out diagnostic tests on the rest of the residents and employees".
