Raquel Payà school was conceived initially for five classrooms. Currently has eleven classrooms and 75 students 3 to 21 years are served by a master of therapeutic pedagogy and teacher in every classroom, plus three specialists in speech therapy three physiotherapists, a professor of physical education, one music a psychologist and teacher training adapted for over 16 years, with multipurpose learning tasks such as sewing, marquetry, pottery or modeling.

Since its opening, the physiognomy of the school has changed substantially with the addition of new rooms as a teaching kitchen, a swimming pool in which to perform hydrotherapy or school garden.

But despite the expansion of facilities with new services, increasing the number of students forced the addition of three prefabricated classrooms, although they are larger than normal, are uncomfortable for these children. The lack of space in the bathrooms of the classrooms, which prevents access of wheelchair users, leaks or problems with temperature conditions the use of classrooms.

Enlargement school

Last December, the Ministry of Education announced the expansion of the school desired a qualified notica "probe balloon" by the director of the center, who has seen how since 2000 the administration has not given priority to the works of the school. In the first moment for not having the lands ceded by the city council; later, for not considering it a "priority center" in the middle of the crisis.

That is why Maite Martí calls into question the expansion of the school next year. "I could be fighting every day to expand the school, but I prefer to fight for things that I know I can get how to fight because they send a teacher when we need it and can continue to provide good service to students who need it"Says the director.

Help from social collectives throughout the region

Although cost management to make the main problem of school reality, such as isntalaciones, the center has the support of various social groups that throughout the year working with children with gifts, visits or gifts.

En Christmas, for example, all the students of the center receive a gift from Santa Claus thanks to the collaboration of a foreign group that does not miss the Christmas appointment. On other occasions, it is companies or associations that, interested in collaborating, ask the director herself for a list of needs to take charge of any of them.
