The Circuit a Peu to the Marina Alta will be without plastics

The Circuit a Peu to the Marina Alta It will be, for the first time, without plastics. Thanks to the initiative of the Fundació Baleària, the supplies of the twelve races that make up the circuit will not use single-use plastics. In fact, the bottles will be replaced by water bottled in briks and, in addition, glasses produced with biodegradable corn fiber will be provided. This is an action that the Foundation has already carried out in the race of Dénia del Circuit to Peu 2019 and that now expands to the other eleven municipalities that comprise it.

It should be remembered that it is one of the most important sporting events in the region of the year, as it concentrates 12 popular races in 12 municipalities and is held from mid-February to June. The volume of water bottles used annually is more than 30.000, which will now be eliminated thanks to this action.

The entity will be responsible for acquiring water tetrabriks, from the company Agua EnCaja Mejor, as well as biodegradable vessels. The municipalities of the 12 localities, as well as those responsible for the athletic clubs of each of them, responsible for organizing the races, have applauded this initiative, which is a before and after in the region and in the Valencian Community, and that this circuit will be a pioneer in being without plastic.

Ricard Pérez, organism manager, states: “With this action, we seek to convey the sustainability values ​​of Baleària and of the Foundation, which are aligned with the United Nations sustainable development goals, specifically with the 12 and 13 SDGs, responsible production and consumption, and climate action, respectively ”. In addition, Pérez assures that, in parallel to the action of eliminating the plastics of the races, the Foundation will seek to create synergies with organizations of each of the 12 municipalities to promote other activities related to sustainability in the organization of events, such as talks and exhibitions, something that is also related to the 17 SDG, creating alliances to achieve the objectives. And, it should be remembered that the entity is a signatory of the Spanish Network of the Global Compact, an international organization that works for the achievement of the SDGs and the UN 2030 Agenda.

For his part, Juan Zaragozí, president of the Circuit a Peu a la Marina, has also thanked the Foundation for its constant support for the sport and the role it has had in getting it for the first time without plastic. “This is a road that we had long wanted to take because we believe that the need to make a more sustainable world cannot wait. I am sure that the more 1.500 brokers who participate in each test will also commit to achieve it ”He concluded.
