The City Council will reduce parking on Calle Mayor and Plaza Valgamedios in favor of pedestrians

November 13 from 2019 - 14: 09

The extraordinary plenary session convened for next Friday will approve the sixth modification of credits of the year 2019 for an amount of 262.500 euros that will allow the city council to start the tender dossier of the redevelopment works of Pare Pere and Mayor streets and Valgamedios squares and Tenor Cortis The project is valued at 750.000 euros. The Diputación de Alicante will subsidize 65% of the total cost of the works and the rest will be financed by the City Council of Dénia.

The redevelopment project aims to solve the problems caused by road traffic and parking on narrow streets with insufficient curb for pedestrians, as well as improve the situation of existing infrastructure, obsolete and without stormwater drainage network.

The main street will become an essentially pedestrian street where parking will be suppressed, although vehicles will continue to be allowed. For this, the demolition of sidewalks, curbs and asphalt pavement and its replacement by pavers is planned. Bollards will be arranged on the dividing line between the pedestrian strip and the area for passing vehicles. In this street the renovation of the existing services and infrastructures is contemplated, as well as the installation of a rainwater evacuation collection network. In the perpendicular streets Bretxa and Cos de Guàrdia, a similar action is planned, with paving of the same type.

In the Plaza de Valgamedios, the project plans to suppress the central area car park to make it a place for pedestrian use only. A cobblestone performance will be carried out in the same way as the one stipulated on Main Street and removable benches, litter bins and planters that can be removed when required. The vials that surround the square will maintain their current state and use.

In Pare Pere street, finally, it will only act on the road surface, without altering the current geometry, use and type. For this, the project distinguishes two zones. The first covers from Estrella Street to Tenor Cortis Square. In this section the current firm will be lifted and the sidewalks and curb will be renewed. In the second section contemplated, between Tenor Cortis square and Ramón y Cajal street, the milling of the current road sign and its resurfacing is planned, maintaining the current infrastructure and services.

On the other hand, on Estrella Street, given the problems of existing stormwater evacuation, catchment screeners and a rainwater pipeline with pipeline will be installed that, in addition to collecting the water that comes from Main Street, connect with the existing network in Moncada street.

Finally, the Tenor Cortis square will become a pedestrian, preventing road access and parking on the sides, except for access to an existing ford. Yes, road traffic through the square through the center will be allowed. This pedestrian conversion will be carried out with the same type of pavement provided in the main street. In addition, the repair and reconstruction of the existing planter in the center of the square is planned, maintaining the current design.

The deadline for the execution of the works is 6 months and is expected to be carried out during the first half of 2020.
