On February 20 the "anything goes" of electric scooters ends

February 03 from 2020 - 14: 36

The boom that has experienced in recent years the use of new personal mobility vehicles (electric scooters, one- or two-wheel platforms, segways or bicycles with cars, among others) for urban journeys and the need to regulate these means of transport and guaranteeing its coexistence with the rest of the users of public roads led the City Council of Dénia to approve the modification of the municipal traffic ordinance, circulation of motor vehicles and road safety in July 2019 to incorporate the relative regulations to this type of vehicles.

The amendment of the ordinance was published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante on January 30 and will enter into force on February 20.

With all the paperwork done, the time has come for people to be informed and know how to get around with personal mobility vehicles (VMPs) and where. For this, throughout this month of February, the Department of Citizen Protection and the Local Police of Dénia are going to carry out a campaign based on different lines of action that today the councilor of the area has broken down, Javier Scotto.

In the first place, the VMP regulations have been reported to the staff of the Local Police so that, in turn, they can instruct citizens from the information points that, starting next week, will be installed in different points of the city coinciding with quotes that gather a good number of audiences, such as the fruit and vegetable market on Fridays.

On the other hand, today it starts the mail in homes of 15.000 copies of the information leaflet that has been published by the council in Spanish, Valencian and English.

The brochure includes the typology of personal mobility vehicles (A, B and C), along with the requirements to drive them and the routes on which they can travel. It also offers other information that Scotto considers essential to end possible confusion among users: which vehicles are not considered VMP, as is the case with skates, which have the category of toys and, therefore, can circulate through sidewalks; vehicles for people with functional diversity, who have the same consideration as pedestrians and can also drive on sidewalks; bicycles, whether electric or not; and electric mopeds, class L1e, which must be registered and can only circulate on walkable streets for motor vehicles.

The informative publication has also been made available to the owners of VMP sales and rental establishments, who can pick it up by the Local Police Headquarters to distribute it in their stores. Another 3.000 copies will be distributed by the municipal facilities and institutional advertising media (mupis) distributed throughout the city will also display the campaign posters. This will also reach secondary schools in the city "so that all young people know the information first hand," added Scotto. Likewise, the informative brochure will be available to citizens on the web pages of the City Council of Dénia and the Local Police of Dénia, from where it can be downloaded.

Finally, the councilor for Citizen Protection has invited all people interested in the subject to attend this Thursday, February 6, at 19.30:XNUMX p.m., in the Municipal House of Culture, to an informative session on personal mobility vehicles and their regulation, in which they can also raise their doubts and questions.

Based on the results obtained, the council will consider launching it again in summer, aimed, this time, at owners of second homes and tourists who visit us.
