Cold coral discovered between Denia and Ibiza

Over two months, the ship "Viscount of Eza" He has been exploring the seabed of the Mediterranean Sea in search of more knowledge about these waters. Although the results of all the work done will be announced at least one year, crew members have advance what most caught their attention after analyzing 19.000 square meters within the Spain Exclusive Economic Zone: the presence of cold water coral banks in the channel between Dénia and Ibiza.

It is located about 900 meters deep in one of the areas where more discoveries have been found: a chain of seamounts with a height of between 200 and 400 meters. Members of "Viscount of Eza" They will realize their discovery to the UN, since these coral reefs are susceptible of protection.

Unlike the coral surface, which grow in tropical waters between 20 and 28 degrees, the cold water corals are generated at depths of about 1.000 meters with temperatures that can reach 4 degrees and are the great unknown, 250 discovered some years ago in Norway.
