Dénia will return for the third consecutive year to be present at the 'Matfestival' in Bergen

A delegation from Dénia will travel this Thursday to the Norwegian city of Bergen, where it will participate, for the third consecutive year, in the "Matfestival". This festival is one of the most renowned gastronomic shows in northern Europe. The Dianense representation will maintain institutional and commercial contacts with local authorities and businessmen, and will actively participate in the festival with its own promotional stand and preparing traditional cuisine from the region for the audience. On this occasion the Dianense delegation is headed by the mayor, Vicent Grimalt, the director of the Office of Innovation and Creativity, Floren Terrades, and the head of the Department of Tourism, Pepa Cardona. Prior to the festival the Dianense delegation will hold a meeting with the head of marketing of the Department of Tourism of Bergen, Marianne Johnsen, and with the director of business policy of the Local Chamber of Commerce, Atle Kvamme.

Cooperation in tourism and business promotion

A table that will deal with the cooperation of tourism and business promotion between the two cities, and in particular the joint development of gastronomic tourism projects.

The Chamber of Commerce of Bergen is a local institution with a long historical tradition, which brings together the majority of businessmen and merchants in the region. It has more than 3.000 partners and is a key element for the economic development of the city.

The dianense gastronomic representation is carried out this time by Vicent Almela, kitchen teacher of the María Ibars Institute, and middle-school students Rafael Ferrando and Caitlin Knappen. The three are participating in the Erasmus + program "Young people for a creative and sustainable cuisine", Financed with funds from the European Union and of which five creative cities of UNESCO are part: Dénia, Parma, Gaziantep, Östersund and Bergen.

After their participation in the Matfestival, professor and students will stay six more days in Norway, in the city of Voss, fulfilling one more phase of their training process. In mid-September, within the framework of the same training program, three other representatives of the Maria Ibars Institute will move to the Swedish city of Östersund to continue their practices.

Gastronomic Festival DNA 2018

As a result of the international collaboration between cities of the UNESCO Network, the cities of Alba (Italy), Bergen (Norway), Parma (Italy) and Gaziantep (Turkey) have confirmed their participation in the second edition of the DNA Gastronomic Festival that will be held will be held in Dénia on September 29 and 30, promoting the tourist promotion of the city.

The UNESCO designation of Dénia as the Creative City of Gastronomy is a valuable tool for tourism promotion and the international projection of the city. It involves a great effort on the part of the City Council to strengthen international relations within the framework of the Creative Cities Network.
