Dénia joins the Re-uniform initiative to recycle pieces of clothing used by Local Police officers

14 October 2021 - 13: 39

The Dénia City Council has signed a collaboration agreement with the company Insigna, which is in charge of providing the uniforms to the Local Police, to adhere to the Re-uniform initiative to recycle the pieces of clothing used by the agents.

The objective is to give a second life to these materials and avoid the contamination generated by the disposal processes of used uniforms. Due to their characteristics and functions, the uniforms of the officers cannot be discarded like other fabrics and their circulation in the street in improper uses must be avoided.

Through this agreement, Insigna has placed two boxes-containers in the premises of the Police Headquarters where the disused uniforms will be deposited, which the same company will be responsible for collecting and recycling, at no additional cost to the council.

The Re-uniform program includes the collection, classification and preparation of textile waste for proper professional recycling, according to the needs and characteristics of each material. The technology used allows the polyester to be separated, without losing its properties, to reintroduce it back into the production system, which is equivalent to processing a large volume of already unusable garments to convert them into recycled raw material.

So far, 15 Spanish cities are part of the Re-uniform program, which started two months ago. In the province of Alicante, Dénia is the first municipality to join the project.
