Dénia leaves the toughest economic adjustment plan in its history four years ahead of schedule

13 June 2018 - 11: 02

"One of the most important news for citizens". This is what the councilor of finance of the Dénia City Council has called Paco Roselló, the exit of the Economic Adjustment Plan in which the municipality was immersed since the year 2012. And it does four years earlier than expected, since that plan lasted ten years.

The councilor explained that the Local Government Board will approve this Wednesday the repayment of 5,5 million euros in loans, 2.461.042,72 of which correspond to loans that were requested in 2012 to benefit from a Royal Decree for the fund of suppliers that amounted to 14.689.492,94 euros to deal with the debts he had with the suppliers.

During all this time, the citizens of Dénia have suffered the rise of the tax rate of the IBI, from 0'90 to 1'155, which represents an increase of 28'33%. It has also raised the rate of garbage, from 90 to 125 euros; The sewerage rate has been set in motion and the contingency fund has to be included in the budgets every year. In addition, the desired investments could not be made and the municipal workforce has been frozen and reduced.

Now, after leaving the Adjustment Plan, Dénia will be able to dedicate the budget settlements to financially sustainable investments through a plan that will be drawn up by the City Council in accordance with the law.

Roselló has been pleased to be able to transfer this news to the citizens of Dénia, and to have done it earlier than expected. To achieve this goal, the municipality has applied during these years measures of saving in current expenses; has improved financial management; and it has improved the management of the treasury, reducing the debt with suppliers to the current 800.000 euros, and the payment period to only six days.

After hearing this news, the Department of Finance of the City of Dénia is already working on the municipal budgets of the 2019 year, which they hope to approve before the end of the year.
