Dénia "will come out of the closet" this bridge after COVID left the city without LGTBI Pride

07 October 2020 - 11: 33

The Department of Equality and Diversity of the City Council of Dénia has organized various activities to commemorate the Day to come out of the closet (October 11). The events were planned, at first, within the commemorative programming of June 28, International LGTBI Pride Day, but finally they had to be suspended due to the health crisis derived from COVID-19.

The central part of the program is the campaign "Love is so big that it does not fit in a closet", which will take place from October 15 to 25 and whose objective is to make visible the experience of people who have 'come out of the closet' . This new campaign, connected with the one carried out in Jesús Pobre last year, aims to "close the closet once and for all so as not to confine diverse love again," said the Councilor for Equality and Diversity, Javier Scotto.

It is a street action consisting of placing a closet in a prominent and crowded place in Dénia, the Plaza del Consell, covered with messages about real experiences of people from the LGTBI collective collected during the "Som diversitat" campaign that the Department of Equality and Diversity carried out on Facebook during lockdown. The visibility action will also take place in Plaça del Poble de Jesús Pobre and Plaça del Garrofer de La Xara. These urban spaces of diversity will be completed with a photocall where the public can express their support for the campaign and contribute to make visible the values of diversity, inclusion and equality.

On Thursday 15th and Friday 16th October, at 20:40 p.m., in the municipal library (Sant Josep street), the Viridiana company will perform the play Dark Love [Sonnets], a show based on the last poems written by Federico García Lorca and that speak of the hidden and tortured love of the poet. Admission is free and capacity is limited to a maximum of XNUMX people. In order to attend, you must reserve your ticket by writing an email to equaltat@ayto-denia.es.

Finally, with the collaboration of the Department of Culture, the screening of the documentary Resistencia trans (2019), directed by Claudia Reig, has been introduced into the program. It will be on Wednesday October 14, at 19.30:XNUMX p.m., at the Social Center. Admission is free by invitation. The address to make reservations is www.notikumi.com.
