Dénia claims the transfer of Sareb homes to allocate them to social or affordable rental

The plenary session of the Dénia City Council has approved this Thursday a motion to demand from the Government the transfer to the regional public park of housing and developable land of the Sociedad de Gestión de Activos Procedentes de la Restructuración Bancaria (SAREB) to allocate them to social or affordable rental, in the case of housing, the construction of housing for affordable social rental, with no option for sale, or other educational, health, social, public infrastructure, or green areas that benefit the whole of society, depending on the needs of the territory, in the case of building plots.

The text indicates that since its constitution in 2012, the SAREB has carried out "actions that do not take into account the social drama of the people who inhabit the properties and are victims of speculation, the eviction of vulnerable families or the clauses abusive rental contracts, among others" and advocates converting this society "into a social tool to enforce the right to decent housing in our country".

Plenary of Dénia

The motion offers figures on the seriousness of the situation in the Valencian Community, where there are 18.775 social homes, which represent only 0,6% of the total number of homes in our territory; an amount three times less than the Spanish average (1,8%) and 5,5 times less than the European Union average (9,3%).

This need for public housing, "which continues to increase both at the state and regional level", inspires the motion discussed in plenary, which also requests that legal mechanisms be enabled that make it possible indefinitely to suspend housing procedures. eviction of people in a situation of vulnerability or in affordable rents owned by the SAREB and who lack a residential alternative. It also requests that a body be designated to monitor the activity of the SAREB and verify compliance with its objectives now that it is a public entity.

This point was approved with the affirmative vote of the PSPV, Compromís, People of Dénia and Citizens and the vote against the Party.

Sewerage in La Pedrera

Another approved proposal has been a credit supplement to carry out the works to extend the sewerage network in Aristeu street, in La Pedrera, which is not currently connected to the network.

The plenary unanimously approved a credit supplement of 153.599,33 euros to allocate them to finance part of the expenses derived from the works of the collector. The rest, including the connection of each house on the street to the main network, will be covered by the residents of Aristeu through special contributions.

Local Police Medal in Andrés Tabernero

The session also unanimously agreed to award the Dénia Local Police medal to the Chief Mayor of the Local Police, Manuel Andrés Tabernero. The proposal, arising from the Department of the Interior, is justified by Tabernero's professional career, with more than 37 uninterrupted years of service, of which about 25 have been in front of the municipal police leadership.

The motion argues that during the first stage of Andrés Tabernero as head of the Local Police (1985-2007) he carried out modifications to achieve the specialization and professionalization of the police service both internally and externally, with the initiatives such as the creation and training of the first teams of reports of the Local Police of Dénia, the creation of the Rural Police units and the specialized night unit, the establishment of the maritime and surveillance service of beaches of Dénia or the creation of the Artemis group for the fight against gender violence.

After a few years as mayor and deputy chief of the force, Tabernero resumed the direction of the Local Police at the beginning of this year and during this period he directed the relaunch of the Unit specializing in the environment, the creation and training of the Eros Unit, focused in hate crimes against the LGTBIQ+ collective, and the boost in the training of the police force.

In recognition "of the merits acquired during his long professional career and for his contribution to the exaltation of the image of the Dénia Local Police force" he is awarded this distinction, which will be given to him during the celebration of Police Day Local Dénia next December 20.

Support to the primary sector

On the other hand, the municipal Corporation has agreed by majority, with the vote in favor of the PSPV, Compromís and Gent of Dénia, the abstention of Ciudadanos and the negative vote of the Popular Party, the motion in which the central government is asked to establish measures to face the current inflationary crisis on the price of basic foods that are healthy, sustainable and local and calls for support for any initiative on the food basket "to ensure fair prices for producers and maximum prices for consumers."

The approved text also urges the Government of Spain to establish "minimum and fair prices for farmers, ranchers and the fishing sector settled in our territory" eliminating any action that is contrary to the survival of the activity.

General Structural Plan and Youth Plan

The plenary session has agreed to the initial approval of the final version, of November 2022, of the General Structural Plan, which will be sent to the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Public Works and Mobility for final approval. The proposal was approved by a majority, with the favorable vote of PSPV and Compromís, the abstention of Ciudadanos and the negative vote of the Popular Party and People of Dénia.

On the other hand, the document of the I Youth Plan of Dénia, Xara and Jesús Pobre has been approved unanimously and the appointment of the Valencian singer-songwriter, Paco Muñoz as adopted son of the city of Dénia has also been unanimously approved.
