On Friday there was a meeting between representatives of the municipal government, spokespersons for political groups and businessmen from the tourism sector with the team drafting the Dénia Tourism Sustainability Plan, which will opt for the Program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations of the Secretariat of State of Tourism to obtain financing for further development.
The new Program of Plans for Tourism Sustainability in Destinations aims to regain the momentum of the previous plans for excellence and tourism dynamization, co-financed by the Ministry, autonomous communities and local entities, adapting it to the circumstances of the current tourism market and the new challenges that it demands society, including those imposed by the crisis derived from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The latter was one of the issues that focused the meeting. For example, the need to have safety and hygiene systems and protocols was addressed, to properly serve tourists and convey confidence.
The Program of Tourism Sustainability Plans aims to reconversion of destinations to maintain attractiveness and competitiveness, through the execution of actions to requalify the destination, reconversion of uses, environmental restoration, accessibility, innovation, technology and improvement of governance, from the perspective of smart management and sustainability.
Local entities have to present their proposal to the regional government and to the Secretary of State for Tourism and the plans that are approved may receive a subsidy of up to 4 million euros for the three-year duration established.
Dénia hopes to have her plan finished in the next few weeks. At the end of the year, the tripartite agreements will have to be closed to begin the development of the actions included in the Tourism Sustainability Plan.
