Dénia will implement a Technical Inspection for Buildings of more than 50 years

20 September 2017 - 17: 03

The recent evictions of the residents of the buildings Suertes del Mar and Antonio Català group have accelerated something that Dénia City Council has been working on for a few months: the implementation of the technical inspection of buildings in the municipality.

The Councilor for Territory, Maria Josep Ripoll, explained that, as a preliminary step, a register of buildings over 50 years old has been drawn up, whose owners, by law, are required to pass this type of inspection.

From his department are working with professionals of the sector for the implementation of this inspection, which is part of a strategy on rehabilitation and urban regeneration in which the council has been working for some time.

In April of this same year the City Council of Denia signed an agreement with the Department of Housing, Public Works and Vertebration of the Territory to establish ways of collaboration in the promotion of building rehabilitation, regeneration and urban renewal. In June, the councilor informed the Consell de Urbanisme about this strategy, which is scheduled to be presented shortly in a day.

Ripoll has insisted that the maintenance of the buildings is the responsibility of the owners that the city council acts when deficiencies are detected in balconies, cornices or any other element that may affect safety on public roads, "But it has neither the obligation nor the capacity to carry out the maintenance of the farms".
