Dénia, Eivissa and Cambrils join forces in defense of Posidonia

29 March 2022 - 15: 50

The City Council of Dénia will give the green light in the plenary session on Thursday to the inter-administrative agreement between the municipalities of Cambrils (Tarragona), Dénia and Eivissa for the creation of a group of entities with the purpose of concurring jointly in the development of the program "Vive Posidonia” and opt for the aid of the “Spain Tourism Experiences” program included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the Government of Spain.

"Vive la posidonia" is an experiential ecotourism product, a zero carbon footprint activity that promotes knowledge about a part of the marine ecosystem that is essential for the conservation of biodiversity on the coast, the cleanliness of the waters, the protection of the line of beach against the storms and the fixation of atmospheric carbon, all this through a set of activities compatible with the enjoyment of our beaches and the realization of active and healthy leisure practices.

"Vive la posidonia" seeks to create a specific tourism product around things that each population already does but not in a coordinated way. Thus, it is intended to build a product that can be marketed by agents, salable, attractive to visitors, differentiating, with high environmental added value, that can be integrated into the marketing programs of local tour operators and that associates the tourism brand of the three cities. values such as 'eco', 'natural', 'sustainable' and 'unique'.

Thus, "Vive la posidonia" transforms currently existing activities, directs them towards sustainability and understanding of the complexity of the coastal ecosystem and turns them into a comprehensive, emotional, cognitive and memorable experience within a vacation in beach destinations. Living posidonia is living our Mediterranean, better understanding our blue waters, the quality of our sandbanks, the richness of marine life and the responsibility we have to protect a fragile but generous environment, which gives us so much.

A project like this is transformative in itself because it raises awareness among both visitors and local tour operators, it helps them understand that the Posidonia that reaches the beaches is not dead algae but rather proof of the health of our coastline and a guarantee that our beaches will continue to be privileged places. There is no greater change of perspective than understanding that what seems like death and dirt is really life and wealth.

The budget of the project for which the aid is requested amounts to 1.371.636 euros, 100% eligible for the program.

A lot of talk but they do not specify anything of what they are going to do. A Spa with algae treatment? A million and a half euros for what exactly? To make some colored posters with the slogan in the middle?
