The Marine Surveillance Service, in charge of protecting the Posidonia meadows, will have one of its teams in Dénia. The service will start operating on June 1, according to the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition, Mireia Mollà.

This monitoring assistance will have two fixed points, one in the capital of the Marina Alta and another in Valencia. In addition, six seasonal points will complete the planned eight teams. All of them will be in charge of monitoring and protecting the seabed, especially the Posidonia meadows.

"We are at the gates of the beginning of this Service that will be in the sea, which will correct the moorings, warning, carrying out environmental education and disclosure to anyone who is interfering in the Posidonia meadows", Mollà stated.

The Ministry of Ecological Transition has invested half a million euros in the operation. seasonal teams will cover the entire coastal strip during the summer period, which runs from June 1 to August 31, while the landlines will extend their activity until November 30.

The councilor made this announcement during the closing of the presentation of the 'Posidonia Project', an initiative of the Fundación Oceanogràfic to map 7.000 hectares of marine space in the Marina Alta and transfer the value of the ecosystem to the school community and the population of the municipalities located in the study areas.

Mollà, in his speech, has valued the initiative that is fully aligned with the Posidonia Conservation Decree. The new regulations "speak about the marine space, about what we have to do so as not to harm Posidonia, but also about what we must do when it arrives at our beaches; incorporate it and take advantage of it as a great preventer of the erosion we are experiencing", she explained.

The decree also provides update the cartography of our submerged forest (the second largest at the state level) to expand the knowledge and conservation of these seagrass meadows.

The head of the regional department has also referred to the dialogue with the municipalities, entities, yacht clubs and boat rental companies so that the decree is an asset from all points of view and to make the prohibition coexist in the decree to attack Posidonia and its management as a barrier against the regression of the coast.

Likewise, he referred to the Valencian Biodiversity Strategy that focuses on the management of 53% of the marine territory with some form of conservation and the recent agreement signed with the Ministry to promote the coordination and efficiency of the shared management of marine spaces of the Natura 2000 Network.
