The Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development has chosen Dénia to present the Valencian catalog of traditional varieties of agricultural interest, a document that gathers 42 different autochthonous varieties available to farmers and consumers.
The CDT has been the scene of this presentation day, inaugurated by the Councilor Elena Cebrián, who explained that this catalog seeks, on the one hand, to offer information to the Valencian farmers for their cultivation, promoting their conservation in the field, and, on the other, to disclose and promote these varieties among consumers, remembering their properties and differentiated characteristics.
This catalog is presented as an open and participatory document, prepared by a commission in which groups of farmers, trade unions, universities, research centers, associations for the conservation of biodiversity and consumer associations are represented, among other organizations in the sector.
The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, has highlighted the importance of having chosen Dénia as the setting for this presentation, a show of support from the Consell to the project Dénia & Marina Alta #TastingLife. Grimalt has highlighted the important role of agriculture for this plan of action, which "would not be possible without the protection of soil and land and the recovery of agriculture and everything that our ancestors did."
