Countdown for Dénia to recover the House of Sant Josep for cultural use

13 2018 April - 07: 55

The cultural heritage of Dénia is growing. Yesterday we witnessed the inauguration of the Renaissance staircase and the recovery of the Palau Vell space in the Castle, little time remains for another of the symbols of the modern city to begin to have cultural uses.

The house on Sant Josep Street, which until a few years ago housed the Retired Dénia Home, will become a cultural center that will house part of the Municipal Archive, the Public Library and an assembly hall, with the aim of decongesting the current Municipal House of Culture, also headquarters of the UNED.

The works began in 2016, and its completion is very close. The works these weeks are already focusing on the facade and the tower of the building, whose changes of image can already be seen from the street. Once the works are completed, the City Council will have to furnish the center, an important investment that will make these facilities the cultural epicenter of the city.

The investment of this work amounts to about 1,5 million euros, contributed entirely by the Ministry of Development.

Dénia will continue to grow in terms of culture: the rehabilitation work of the Casa de la Marquesa Valero de Palma, on Cavallers street, very close to San José street, is pending, which will allow the expansion of the Ethnological museum. In addition, work continues on the rehabilitation of the old fish market, which will convert the building into the new tourism office and an exhibition space.
