The surveillance and first aid service of the Red Cross in the beaches de Dénia has closed the summer with a record of assists. Volunteering has carried out a total of 4.234 services, a figure that represents a record compared to the statistics of the last four years.
During the tourist season, between June 5 and September 26, the surveillance device, with a hundred lifeguards covering the coastline eight hours a day, although rescues have skyrocketed, the number of deaths has been 0 per second year in a row.
Regarding the 2020 season, a summer also marked by COVID restrictions, with 1.903 attendances, the increase this year represents an increase of 123%, mainly due to stings from jellyfish and spider fish, among others. Only during the months of high season (July and August) 3.301 assistances were carried out for bites of different kinds.
On the other hand, the beach that has received the most medical assistance due to trauma (wounds, contusions, etc.) has been, as is usually the case, the beach of Les Rotes, which triples the number compared to other areas of the Dianense coastline. In the months of July and August, 235 assists for injuries at this point.
The assistance provided by the technical personnel of the Red Cross ambulance has been 89, of which 44 have required transfer to the hospital or health center. In other rescues, the transfer was carried out by the SAMU or even a helicopter (as in the case of several rescues located in Les Rotes).
Where this ambulance service has been required the most has been on the beach Punta del Raset, with 28 interventions, motivated, above all, by the assistance due to incidents in the inflatable attraction, followed by Marines and Les Rotes.
Regarding the number of social assistance, the bathing season has resulted in 482 assisted bathing services (amphibious chair and crutches) and collaboration in the search for 25 missing persons (21 minors).
The human resources of the Red Cross have had this summer the material reinforcement of a health post on each beach, watchtowers on Els Molins, Les Marines and Les Rotes, 28 surveillance chairs, an ICU ambulance, two jet skis, three quads, three rescue boats, a kayak and three bicycles.
