Cormorants, peregrine falcons or nightingales, the species with which Dénia celebrated World Birds Day

06 October 2017 - 00: 35

Last weekend, and on the occasion of the celebration of Bird Day 3 in October, the Department of Environment of Dénia organized a conference last weekend, in charge of the environmental company Magic & Nature, to raise awareness of the need to protect avifauna because of its important role in the ecosystem.

On Saturday, 30 of September, a guided tour of the marshland and rice fields of the Parc Natural de la Marjal de Pego-Oliva took place. It was possible to observe the different birds that the environment hosts in a period as important as the migration. A scientific banding session was also held by the doctor and ornithologist Francisco Atiénzar, and among the captures are birds such as the kingfisher, the nightingale nightingale, the nightingale bastard, several wrigglers and a teal of a necklace.

In the afternoon, children and adults enjoyed a mini-fair of workshops related to the world of birds, in the Center d'Interpretació of Parc Natural del Montgó del Bosc in Diana, where they learned to build nests boxes and biodegradable canteens. The day ended with an ecological snack.

On Sunday 1 of October, a catamaran trip was made by the Cap de Sant Antoni reserve for the observation of seabirds. During the visit, participants could observe the different birds that inhabit the natural enclave, such as the cormorant colony and the peregrine falcons.
