Tips to prevent the flu from spreading this winter

Denia and the Marina Alta are preparing these days to receive what is expected to be the highest peak of the flu this winter. For this reason, the Dénia Health Department has launched an information campaign with some advice on the importance of prevention to prevent the flu virus from becoming an epidemic in the Marina Alta.

Dr. Ana María Morote, Director of Primary and Outpatient lists the following tips to avoid rapid spread:

  • Using the arm instead of the hand when sneezing or coughing
  • Wash hands often
  • Avoid going to closed and crowded places when the virus has contracted
  • Away from the most immunosuppressed people and children if you have contracted the virus

Flu symptoms

The main symptoms of flu are muscle pain, joint and throat, dry cough and high fever. Flu, despite -39º- hyperthermia, it is not advisable to stay in bed. You just have to make rest, if the patient's condition prevents him from leading a normal life.

Flu lasts for about 7-8 days, although some symptoms such as cough can last the dry- longer. By having viral origin, antibiotics are not effective. The most effective way to treat it analgesics, anti-inflammatory and drink plenty of fluids.

Health officials advise not to go to hospital emergencies, if there is no associated chronic diseases, such as respiratory problems, bronchitis type; heart failure, liver or kidney.
