Condemned to the curb seeks to "normalize" disability by bringing it closer to institutes

07 June 2021 - 17: 17

La Facing the association Edging carries out different types of activities throughout the year related to raising awareness and making contact with the functional diversity group. All these activities have been taking place since 2008. One of them, and which comes to an end in its 2020/21 edition, is the project Iguals som, som diferents, which is carried out in different educational centers in Dénia and the region. In addition, all sessions are led by people with different types of disabilities.

Although during this school year, and due to the special situation, it has been necessary to limit the days for security reasons, a total of fourteen days have been held for students of different courses, ESO, Baccalaureate and Training Cycles, in educational centers from IES Maria Ibars and IES Historian Chabás de Dénia, Colegio Montgó de Dénia and the IES Josep Iborra de Benissa.

This project aims to raise awareness, seek and bring to light the reality and needs of people with different abilities, their day-to-day life, their effort and the limitations they encounter, in order to "normalize" disability in the within the community and achieve support that favors inclusion.

The activities carried out are divided into four blocks:

  • Conferences, awareness talks and group dynamics. Many students have never contacted the group and therefore are completely unaware of it. Therefore, these activities allow them to maintain a direct relationship and are an extraordinary way to sensitize the school community about this reality.
  • Adapted sports activities. Know and practice different adapted sports activities (Bowling, Boccia, Kin Ball, Jenga ...).
  • Presentation of the book "Els colors de Pasqual". Written by Pascual Cervantes, user of the association with cerebral palsy who talks about his experiences in his day to day, poems and reflections on disability and on Dénia.
  • Viewing the documentaries edited by the Association.

"This project is possible thanks to the collaboration of the Dénia City Council and the Alicante Provincial Council", they affirm from the association, to which they add: "and thanks to the trust shown by the educational community towards the project, it may be taken up again at beginning of the course 21/22 ".

I have lived in Denia for years and lately it is terrible, the parking spaces for the disabled are always occupied by people who say it is a little while others who put the indicators on you and others who simply park because it is easier for them and if they do not put more interest to people. that this corresponds to them gives laughter or better sadness. My husband has a disability and I know very well what I am talking about. I would be more than calling the police when it happens to us that it is always but he protests with me but he goes around until he finds a parking lot. I think it's good about the schools but until these children drive there is much that we do with those who drive these days ………. what solution is going to be given …….
