20 December 2021 - 20: 03

The Local Police of Dénia has once again celebrated its medal ceremony this morning, which could not be carried out last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. An event in which the fight, still persistent, against COVID-19 and the work to enforce constantly changing regulations has been very present.

The pandemic "has changed the game board" of the Local Police, as noted by the Councilor for Citizen Protection, Javier Scotto, in his speech. Dénia agents have had to deal with the worst of the pandemic and in very difficult conditions. During the confinement, while most of the neighbors were able to take shelter in their homes, the patrols continued to travel the empty streets, as they remembered on the spot. With tough situations, and agents who waited on the landing of their houses after their shift deciding to enter, for fear of taking the coronavirus home and family.

However, at the Dénia police station there was no not a single positive in the workplace. They achieved this thanks to the creation of closed work teams, strict hygiene protocol and shifts to avoid crowds at the exits and entrances of the shifts. A time that they remember with some bitterness, because they acted as if they were strangers, their representatives said.

Of course, they assure that they would do it a thousand times, and that each self-imposed measure was worth it. In addition, they affirm how pleasant it was to receive that extra dose of encouragement at 20:00 p.m. each day through the applause from the balconies, which wanted to correspond with their lights and sirens.

It is for this work that this year 72 Crosses to Professional Merit. This is the highest figure since the Dénia Local Police was created in 1873. In fact, the delivery had to take place on La Vía street, in the open air, despite the fact that the event took place in the auditorium of the Social Center, thus avoiding crowds on stage.

Although it has been a moment of celebration, the chief commissioner, Jose Martinez Espasa, wanted to remind that it is not time to lower our guard because "the pandemic is still dragging us" and has recommended "vaccination and follow the health measures of distancing and the use of a mask."

Disputes in nightclubs and stolen mailboxes

Also the mayor of Denia, Vicent Grimalt, has added to the thanks to the work of the police during this time, assuming that they have had to face "signs of irresponsibility, anecdotal but very dangerous." He has also joked recalling the incidents with mailboxes Christmas, which have become "trophies for funny people."

However, he has also been critical of some reactions of the public towards the agents, who demand them everywhere but censure while being strict.

Poisoned darts at nightlife have not been lacking, underlining both the mayor and councilor Scotto the important new task entrusted to the Local Police, which is to ensure the rest of the neighbors and intervene in the growing fights that take place in the doors of the downtown discos, alluding to recent events in front of the Condado room.

Congratulations on performances of great merit

During the event, the veteran badges were presented and there was a moment to remember the agents who have retired in this exercise. Public congratulations were also made to members of the staff, for meritorious actions that go beyond the usual work entrusted.

But if the police only serve to scare the population and raise money by issuing fines for everything. The only ones who have done something of value in the pandemic have been the toilets, you are ashamed.
