Compromís denounces that the Marina Alta and La Safor are the only regions in Europe without rail transport

09 June 2021 - 14: 35

The spokesperson for Compromís for Dénia, Rafa Carrió, met yesterday with mayors and councilors of the Marina Alta and the Safor-Valldigna, in a rally in front of the Gandia train station attended by the Compromís a les Corts deputy, Papi Robles, to present the campaign of the coalition that denounces that the Valencian suburbs are the most mistreated in the state Spanish.

And it is that over the last 10 years, 3.400 million euros of investments have been committed for the commuter network, of which only less than € 300.000 have been executed, as shown in a network that is not even electrified in some sections, there is no duplication of roads ... “We understand that the best way to structure and protect our territory, fight against climate change and social cohesion, because everyone has the same opportunities, is done hand in hand with one commuter network that is extensive throughout the territory ", explained the deputy.

The specific case of Gandia is an example, since the train from the coast ends in the capital of La Safor and does not continue south. It seems that the territory ends there, isolating the rest of the municipalities and the neighboring regions to the south. “At Compromís we understand that this lack of investment by the State is irresponsible and that is why we demand that the commuter powers be transferred to the Generalitat, with the investment that this requires, because we are the ones who best know the situation of our territory and the necessary infrastructures and we can work from reality ”.

The deputy to the Corts has recalled that if there is an abandonment in the use of the neighborhoods it is because of the lack of investment and poor service, with more and more cancellations and delays. "For this reason, we launched this campaign hand in hand with the proposal for the development of the railway network for our territory that does not leave any municipality without a good connection, that each person can move in a fair and supportive way."

Compromís also proposes with this campaign the use of a single intermodal pass for metro, bus and train, so that everyone can travel in a simple and economical way combining the different means of transport. And they have called for affected users to make it appear on official websites, making reality overcome opacity.

The spokesperson for Compromís in the Dénia City Council, Rafa Carrió, has stressed that La Safor and La Marina, the two regions in terms of the largest population numbers, “are the only regions in all of Europe that do not have rail transport. We do not understand it because this section is necessary and mandatory. All of society has claimed it but later it is not done. It is necessary to structure the territory, to unite the regions of Valencia with those of Alicante, making transport cheaper, much more sustainable and safe. We would have the alternative to going by road ”. He assured that now is the time, since we have a Torrent Development Minister, "who only lacks political will." "Now we have another problem, since they want to charge again to use the highways, we flatly deny until there is no alternative, such as the Gandia-Oliva-Dénia Train."

For his part, the mayor of Oliva, David González, on behalf of the southern municipalities, has once again denounced the non-existence, despite constant promises, of a train line that runs between Gandia, Oliva and Dénia: “It is a demand historical, it has gone through multiple procedures and we have the feeling that there is no interest on the part of the State. We no longer ask for investments, we ask first that the environmental impact study be processed between Gandia, Oliva and Dénia. Make it a commuter train that has the corresponding stations ”.

Finally, the deputy of the Safor a les Corts, Nathalie Torres, has highlighted that in this campaign three fundamental pillars converge for Compromís, social justice, the structuring of the territory and the ecological transition. "And here these policies of Compromís and the Botànic Government are violated."
