'Chigüines de Nicaragua', a real project that reconciles us with the human being

In these times, knowing stories of generosity and help with those who need it the most is a breath of fresh air. Although sometimes it is hard to believe in the goodness of people, the truth is that (fortunately) they exist. And a more than evident proof we have it very close to us.

The next Saturday 16 of June is presented in Dénia the association Chigüines of Nicaragua, a project born about 15 years ago that helps school-age children from different rural Nicaraguan communities. One of its coordinators, Marta Gasco, has lived in Dénia for almost 20 years, and it is now when the project is presented in his adopted city.

Chigüines de Nicaragua was born in 2003. It is the project of a group of people who at a certain moment decided to contribute their bit to alleviate the inequality and poverty in that country. Thanks to the sponsorship method, Chigüines helps 400, boys and girls, to give them school supplies and shoes to go to school every year.

Joining Marta are Juan, currently responsible for the project in Spain, Asunta, also coordinator in Spain, and Maribel, the promoter of the project, in Nicaragua, as well as other collaborators who lend a hand in everything they can. During the year, Maribel visits the different communities to which Chigüines helps, and is in charge of inventing the needs of each child. Marta, Asunta and Juan are the ones who manage the resources of Chigüines from Spain, and twice a year they travel to Nicaragua to deliver school supplies and shoes, and to check on a daily basis the communities' daily lives.

And Chigüines is not an NGO to use. It does not have offices and its collaborators do not charge for the work they do. It is a small totally altruistic project that aspires to maintain aid in the nine communities in which it operates today. A project driven by the illusion of the people who make it up that is presented in Dénia in search of new sponsors who are encouraged to be part, for only 10 euros per month, of this solidary adventure.

The work of Chigüines in Nicaragua has not only reached the 400 children who are currently sponsored. They have built three schools that they have ceded to the government to ensure that there is at least one teacher in each of them; They have helped with medicines and treatments to several sick children, even bringing a girl to Spain, they have helped in reforms in a center for disabled children and have even bought the uniforms that the government forces to wear in public schools. Now, with 200 sponsors, their efforts are focused on maintaining the nine communities in which they operate and that children of school age do not lack material or shoes.

Chigüines will be presented in Dénia next Saturday, 16 in June, with a solidary dinner in the restaurant Balandros. That night, in addition to collaborating with the dinner ticket, attendees can participate in the raffle of many gifts thanks to the collaboration of different companies in the region.
