The shipping company BaleàriaTogether with Spanish organizations and in collaboration with the Moroccan government, it has initiated a training and employment generation project aimed at students in Morocco. Thanks to this public-private partnership, the employability and labor insertion of young Moroccans will be improved, who will be trained in trades linked to services on board ships and will have the opportunity to be hired by the shipping company, as they will become part of Your employment exchange.
Among the institutions participating in the project, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) stands out, while Morocco is involved in the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Tourism and Transportation and the Office of Vocational Training and Promotion of Labor (OFPPT ).
This course, which starts now and ends in December, is a first edition of a training program dedicated to 100 young Moroccans, vocational students and will be implemented between 2019 and 2021. It will be managed by the Business School Baleària (EdEB). Of the total of 21 selected in this first edition, which have passed a process with several interviews, 13 are men and 8 women, and come from different areas of Morocco such as Tetouan, Tangier, Rabat, Fez, among others. During the training, participants will learn the maritime security code, and will be specifically prepared to carry out work in reception, passenger service and kitchen. Throughout the course, they will practice one month on board a ship of Baleària.
With this project, which contributes to the achievement of the objectives of sustainable development of inequality reduction (SDG-10), and alliances to achieve the objectives (SDG-7), the shipping company wants to show once again its firm social commitment with Morocco, a country in which it started operating in 2003 (between Algeciras and Tangier) and in which it has a second route (Almería-Nador) from 2017. Some routes in which Baleària bets on local personnel in the operation of both land and fleet. It should be noted that in 2018, 23% of the shipping company's employees were of foreign origin, with Morocco being the main nationality (with 28%).
