Baleària creates La Jugueteria del Mar, a collection of toys made from recycled plastics

12 December 2022 - 11: 33

Baleària has combined the promotion of recycling and the protection of marine species with the creativity and Christmas enthusiasm of the little ones to launch La Juguetería del Mar, a collection of more than 150 sustainable toys made by hand from plastics collected both in the sea and the coast, as well as recycled materials from their ships.

The conceptualization and construction of the toys has been carried out by Juan Cabrera, artisan of the Planeta Tapón project, who has devised various models inspired by marine fauna: seahorses, crabs, octopuses and sperm whales, among others. Each of the dolls is a unique and exclusive piece, made from caps, bottles and other plastics, with a simple assembly technique without glue or paint.

The shipping company, through the Foundation Baleària, will allocate all the money raised from the sale of these creations to entities involved in projects for the protection of marine species. The toys made with recycled materials can be purchased at some of the shipping company's ticket offices, as well as on some of its ships, such as the Eleanor Roosevelt fast ferry, which covers the Dénia-Ibiza-Palma route. The money obtained in the workshops organized this week in the Los Magazinos de Dénia cultural space will also be added to the collection.

Workshops on board and exhibition in Dénia

As part of the children's entertainment program on board ships during the Christmas period, Baleària will offer workshops to assemble toys from recycled plastic, following the design and techniques of Planeta Tapón. The sessions on board will take place on December 22, 23 and 26 and January 2, 3, 7, on the routes Valencia-Palma, Dénia-Ibiza-Palma, Barcelona-Alcúdia-Ciutadella, Barcelona-Palma, Algeciras-Ceuta and Malaga-Melilla.

On the other hand, in Baleària Port (Dénia) an exhibition with original and sustainable toys made by the craftsman of the Planeta Tapón project specifically for Baleària is open to the public. It is a collection of toys about marine species created with recycled materials. The objective of this exhibition is to raise awareness, in a creative and artistic way, about the use of plastics and the pollution they cause.

This initiative is part of Rumbo Verde, the brand with which Baleària encompasses all the company's actions linked to environmental protection and which include both projects focused on the eco-efficiency of the fleet and circular economy actions.

Like the protection of the Red Shrimp of Dénia?

The toys are very pretty and the workshops are an excellent idea, but that about the protection of marine species…poor red shrimp.
