Balance of the year by Ángel Vives, Delegate of the Chamber of Commerce

31 December 2020 - 12: 01

This has been a year out of the ordinary, and for this reason, from the Dénia Delegation of the Alicante Chamber of Commerce we have wanted to reinforce the attention to entrepreneurs. We have managed to develop in our Dénia Nursery and with all the required hygienic guarantees, conferences and face-to-face courses, such as the Digital Entrepreneurship -which ended in mid-December. We have also offered free orientation to young people who have opted to carve out a future as entrepreneurs and who we have welcomed as new nurserymen.

Our facilities have been open to new ideas and projects, as well as to the formalization of alliances with other entities with which we have collaborated and participated with a common objective: to promote the economic recovery of the Marina Alta.

From Cámara Alicante, more than 40 webinars have been organized in which we have managed to inform, train and update the business community of the region.

Personally, I applaud initiatives that some municipalities have taken to help the self-employed and entrepreneurs who have chosen to continue with the blinds up, or even to start a new project. For example Xàbia, with the aid that it has recently approved of 1.000 euros for anyone who has started an economic activity during the pandemic. In addition to its Recuperem Xàbia project and for having compensated the hospitality industry, one of the hardest hit sectors, exempting them from paying some municipal taxes.

Ondara's effort is also commendable, where an item of more than half a million euros has already been planned for 2021 for two specific plans that aim to help entrepreneurs and companies in the municipality, in addition to other actions that have already been taken carried out this year, such as direct aid to the self-employed in the town of up to 2.000 euros. Calpe, Teulada, Benissa ... There are many municipalities in the Marina Alta have turned to their self-employed and companies.

I would have liked to see initiatives such as the one carried out by Benidorm, in our neighboring region, where 500 euros have been awarded to each store and hotel that has chosen to install Christmas decorations in their window, in addition to the typical awards for the best three.

I also miss that important cities in the Marina Alta have not “thrown in the rest” to help the self-employed and entrepreneurs, who are the ones who create jobs and wealth in the region. I hope that next year will be a year of change in this trend and a year of opportunities for everyone and especially for the business community of the region.

Happy new year 2021
