This has been the Dénia of 2022 according to the Grimalt team

20 December 2022 - 09: 57

As is customary around these dates, as we approach the end of the year, the PSPV has summoned the media to review all the initiatives that the Dénia City Council, where they govern with an absolute majority, have been carried out this 2022. A large number of projects that, however, have wanted to include in 22 points.

Vicent Grimalt, mayor of Dénia, and Maria Josep Ripoll, Councilor for Urban Planning and first deputy mayor, appeared yesterday at their headquarters wrapped (and surrounded) by the majority of the formation's councilors, as well as several members of the local executive. The objective of this call was to review the main projects carried out this year by the consistory.

The socialists have followed this 2022 the path that they set for themselves whose goal is none other than the transformation of the city. And, well, in certain aspects they have succeeded, or the first steps are appreciated. This year has been the busiest for the City Council, which is usual with elections just around the corner. However, Grimalt was quick to intervene in order to distance himself from that imaginary that ensures that things are done when the ballot boxes are dusted off. "We have not stopped doing things, and not because it is the last year," he pointed out.

It is true that the mandate has been full of obstacles, which they insisted on remembering. First, the DANA of September 2019, whose destruction intensified with the arrival of the temporary glory in January 2020, just four months later. And we already know the following: March 2020, with the health crisis that we dragged on until this year. However, the PSPV celebrated that, despite everything, they have managed to fulfill 90% of their program. A program that, according to the mayor, "has made Dénia a benchmark throughout the Valencian Country."

Dénia for people

Among its most visible initiatives, and which perfectly captures this intention when it comes to transforming the city, the pedestrianization and remodeling of various historic points in the center stand out. La Glorieta del País Valencià is the last one that has begun its transformation, a result that we will be able to see in a few months, but before that came the pedestrianization of Carrer Major and the closure to traffic of Marqués de Campo.

This last decision in particular brought a lot of controversy, unjustified according to the socialists since the opposition defended that it would be lethal for the local businesses. However, according to Grimalt's team, it has been demonstrated with campaigns like the Nit de la Llum or Mercat de Nadal that a center for people makes it easier to walk between the stores and buy or consume in the local establishments. "We represent the Dénia that voted for us and that asked us not to stop and change the city," the mayor stressed.

And this transformation will not stop there, because after the Christmas the remodeling of Marqués de Campo will begin. Pending will remain after suffering several delays (which the mayor attributes to the supply crisis) the completion of the Valgamediós square and the much-announced park on the site of the old ambulatory, projects that should already be advanced or finished.

Contracts and millionaire funds

There was also time to remember the alleged feat that this year has involved the provisional approval of the possible definitive General Structural Plan, which is still pending the approval of the Generalitat for which several reports are pending, and also the signing of the new contract of cleaning and garbage collection, which is not yet 100% developed but which, according to the formation, is already being noticed in all the neighbourhoods.

At the level of municipal funds they have also wanted to highlight that they are in a great moment, having been able to reduce the debt with the banks that the council has from 24 million euros to 17 million. In part, they have achieved this debt reduction at the same time that new projects have been developed thanks to subsidies obtained, such as the celebrated European Next Generation funds that have contributed close to 3 million euros.

The reality is that the PSPV party does not live badly. Do, do… well, what they want to say. They only mention storms and pandemics to have excuses.
Denia, a reference, of what? . Dirty streets, stopped works, uncared for lots, semi-ruined commerce, youth unemployment, almost non-existent industry, forgotten agriculture.
Yes, many bars, there were; more than half have closed; the small merchant in ruin; good restaurants, there are, but with prices that are not contained, in fact none are buoyant. disasters due to storms and other atmospheric factors, permanent each year such as the Fallas and other local festivals, which are abundant.
In short, don't throw flowers and give yourself so much self-promotion, that the little that is done is with subsidies from outside. be prudent and work wisely and correctly. This is not to say that they are lazy… but they can do better.
    Good afternoon.

Although the City Council has carried out 90% of its program, there are many things in which it does not seem that even a small step has been made. Probably because they did not go in their particular program where truly important things were not contemplated and yet others have been done that for the majority of the population were not so important.
The work done cannot be denied to this mayor and some of his government, but they have not dedicated themselves, or have not had the capacity to manage, to achieve other things that are sorely needed in the city.
Decent sports facilities, northern ring road to DÉNIA, elimination of bottlenecks in the main roads of the periphery, more parking in the center of DÉNIA, intelligent solutions for traffic jams at school entrance and exit times, lightening the workforce municipal and application of efficient work systems to optimize resources.
Repair of the Paseo de la Marineta, elimination of the bottle every weekend on the north breakwater in summer, solution to the eternal traffic jam at the entrance to Denia due to the broken dates of more tourism...
Well, there are still things to be done and there are things that a large part of the population is also concerned about, even though this group of government is not.

A 30m telephone antenna in Las Rotas is another of the achievements that this team has made. In the middle of our single-family homes. Destroying the landscape and the environment of those of us who live in the area. Without citizen participation or communication to the neighbors, without alternatives, without option.

    • Omniway says:

It's not to defend the council, but to have coverage you have to put up antennas and if we don't have coverage we also complain, so it's hard to please everyone. If we were given a choice between an antenna or being incommunicado, we would most likely choose the antenna.
On the other hand, living in an area of single-family homes does not justify not having to put services, even if it is ugly, but it is true that there are antennas that are camouflaged in the form of trees and go more unnoticed.

      • ... says:

There is no defense of the city council. Imagine a 30m antenna in front of your window, a few meters from your edge.... Following this argument there is no other option than to build in all of Cabo de San Antonio or natural parks because houses have to be built. The implementation of this type of infrastructure in the middle of the single-family housing area is indefensible. There are other options. The easy way is to find someone who is willing to receive payment for renting your land, regardless of the environmental impact that this entails. That should be the job of the council. STOP these atrocities.
