This is the sculpture, created with railway materials, which will preside over the Dénia train station

The Mayor of Dénia, Vicent Grimalt, the president of the Rotary Club of Dénia, Adela Chelet, and the sculptor Víktor Manuel Ferrando Catalá have today signed the act that makes effective the donation of the sculpture "Heartbeats of the Metropolis" to the Dénia City Council for its installation in an area of ​​the railway-related town. Today it has already been announced that the work will be located at the entrance of the FGV station, at the confluence of Paseo del Saladar with Manuel Lattur street.

The artist explained that the sculpture that will be placed in Dénia is part of a project for the installation of 16 works in 16 different Mediterranean cities, born within the Rotary Club of Calp, "whose ultimate objective is to make citizens aware of recycling items.

And it is that "Beats of the Metropolis" is made with railway steel, structural iron and wood from the waste materials of the La Marina railway that linked Alicante with Dénia. With a weight of 6.800 kilograms and a height of 4,8 meters, the sculpture incorporates rails dated between 1913 and 1950; 400 kilograms of sleeper bolts and bogie springs (a set of pairs of wheels articulated on the platform of a wagon or locomotive to facilitate their adaptation to changing tracks or curves). It is, therefore, "history of the city". As Ferrando has pointed out, “working with historical material was vital for me, since it is a material that has blood and life”.

All of this means that "Beats of the Metropolis" is not just a sculpture, "because there is much more behind it" and seeks interactivity with the public. The first thing that the eye perceives is the silhouette of a gate, "which represents the entrance to the city of Dénia for visitors". This gate, made with rails, opens powered by two motors and allows you to see the interior mechanisms of the sculpture.

The president of the Rotary Club of Dénia, Adela Chelet, has highlighted the importance of carrying out common projects of this type, "driven by common values ​​and objectives", and has thanked the Dénia Town Hall "for the great management carried out to locate the sculpture in a place according to its meaning”.

The mayor, Vicent Grimalt, for his part, who was accompanied by the Councilor for Territory, Maria Josep RipollAnd the councilman of Culture, Raúl García de la Reina, has thanked the local Rotary club for the donation of Ferrando's sculpture, "whose work, which has already reached many places, is magnificent."
