Symptoms of the so-called 'Aleppo pine physiopathy' appear in the Marina Alta

February 07 from 2018 - 12: 36

La Marina Alta It is one of the coastal regions in which the Ministry has detected symptoms of the so-called Aleppo pine physiopathy. Although the symptoms are very striking and can affect a good part of the pine crown, it does not usually cause the death of the trees and their recovery begins to take place when spring arrives, which is when the trees begin to recover their lost leaves. .

The damage consists of the appearance of areas of dry leaves located in different parts of the crown of the pines that acquire a brown color that resembles a flash. It is often the case that, later, the damage extends to the rest of the tree.

Since currently the pathogen causing these symptoms is not yet determined, the Ministry together with the Polytechnic University of Valencia is developing an investigation on the affected pine trees and they have detected the so-called Candidatus Phytoplasma Pini, which suggests that there is a possible relationship between the symptomatology of the trees and the presence of the microorganism.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development, through the service of forest management and management under the general direction of Natural Environment and Environmental Assessment, has launched a campaign aimed at municipalities and individuals to report on this symptomatology

Specifically, the municipalities that have been affected by this symptomatology in the trees of their parks or gardens are located in the regions of l'Horta and Camp de Túria in the province of Valencia. La Plana Alta and Baixa in Castellón and finally in the province of Alicante; Marina Alta and Baixa, Mitjà and Baix Vinalopó, Vega Baja and l'Alacantí.
