Secondary students delve into the history of the common graves of the Civil War and the Franco regime in Dénia

Within the events scheduled in the project Fem Memòria. Dénia, Guerra i Repressió, the Arxiu Històric Municipal organized a talk addressed to the students of 4th ESO and Baccalaureate from the three institutes of Dénia. The lecture "Archeology and memory. Excavation and exhumation of graves from the Civil War and from Francois to the Valencià Country" was given by the archaeologist director of the ArqueoAntro Scientific Association and of the Grup per a la Recuperació de la Memòria Històrica de València, Miguel Mezquida .

More than 300 students from the centers and also faculty of History and Philosophy attended the activity held at the Social Center.

The conference was introduced by the archivist Rosa Seser, who recalled that eighty years of a civil war are now being fulfilled "of which we still feel to speak and of which the wounds have not yet been closed, being Miguel Mezquida's work a good test".


 
Regarding Miguel Mezquida, he pointed out that he has participated in the elaboration of the Grave Map of the provinces of Valencia, Castellón and Alicante and has directed the excavation of some 40 pits between Aragón and Valencia, among others the 128 pit in Paterna (Valencia), the most numerous in the Valencian Community, with more than 100 victims. In addition, he participates in the team in charge of the recovery of the dead soldiers in the Levante Front during the Civil War and is in charge of this subject in the digital magazine of archeology La Linde.
 
This activity with students will be complemented with the visit to the exhibition Dénia, war temps and repressió installed in the Center d'Art l'Estació until the 2 in December.
