On the occasion of the Week for Climate Change organized worldwide, the Student Union of the IES Sorts de la Mar organized several activities related to the issue of the climate fight and global warming. One of them was the concentration in front of the Plaza del Ayuntamiento last Friday, September 27. In addition, a garbage collection was organized in the beaches de Dénia, which was carried out thanks to the collaboration of students from other centers.
Groups of students of 1º and 2º of ESO cleaned the Marineta Beach Cassiana while the older students divided to take care of the areas of Punta del Raset and the North Breakwater.
For two days - Friday and Sunday - and more than six hours of cleaning, they all managed to extract sixty-six garbage bags, a quarter of which filled only with glass.
The union members have stated that "If the youth is not prepared to practice bottle responsibly (even having containers less than three hundred meters away) perhaps they should not. Why are young people allowed to drink in a public space when the embarrassing spectacle they leave behind are hundreds of bottles hidden among the rocks?
From the Union we are delighted to collaborate in public space cleaning activities, but we are aware that our work is useless if every weekend everything we clean gets dirty again when a bottle is made. If the problem is awareness, is it time to take more serious measures? ".
