May 18 from 2018 - 15: 45

"Atopic dermatitis is the most common skin disease in children. It is an inflammatory skin disease that affects approximately 20% of children, causing a significant deterioration in the quality of life of patients and their families. It manifests with peeling, dryness and reddish lesions that produce itching. In infants they usually appear on: face and extension surfaces, while in children it appears inside the elbows, behind the knees, feet, hands, torso and neck ".

This is how Dr. Laura Berbegal, Dermatologist of the Department of Health of Dénia, explains how this disease affects the little ones.

This condition has been treated together with the professionals of the Dénia Health Department. Specifically, the professionals of the Department of Dermatology and Pediatrics of the Department organize a training session in Pediatric Atopic Dermatitis by Dr. Laura Berbegal, Department Dermatologist and Dr. María Sánchez, Pediatrician.

Among other issues, the following recommendations:

1 Daily cutaneous hydration. It is essential to apply the cream at least once a day to restore the integrity of the skin barrier and reduce symptoms.

    2. Hygiene: short showers, with warm water, preferably use hypoallergenic soaps. After showering, do not rub the towel on damp skin, better dry "by touch".

3 Avoid excessive coat. The heat, like very hot water, increases the dryness and irritation of the skin.

4 Wear cotton clothes, preferably white or light colors.

5 Avoid scratching. For this it will be useful to keep the nails short and clean.

6 Varied and balanced diet. Although children with atopic dermatitis may have more chances of developing food allergies, preventive food restrictions are not recommended. Only certain foods will be avoided when there is a clinical suggestive of food allergy.

    7. Exposure to the sun can improve the symptoms of dermatitis, although it must be carried out following the photoprotection standards: avoid the central hours of the day and use a suitable sunscreen.
