01 July 2022 - 14: 27

The Spanish sailor Alex Pella, participates in the Finistère Atlantique challenge, aboard Yves Le Blevec's maxi trimaran “Actual Ultim 3”, in the Ultim class. The regatta begins today, Friday, July 1, and covers a 3.500-mile Atlantic loop that begins in the French port of Concarneau, heading for the Canary Islands, leaving the island of Lanzarote to starboard and beginning the ascent to the Azores and finally reach the port of departure.

The fleet participating in this challenge is made up of, in addition to “Team Actual”, “Sodebo Ultim 3”, with skipper Thomas Coville, “Gitana XVII”, with Charles Cuadrelier and “Banque Populaire”, with Armel Le Cléac'h.

“This year I have sailed very little aboard the “Actual Ultim 3” before this race, but the crew is the usual ones for this maxi trimaran, Amelie Grassi, Antho Marchand, Jean Baptiste Le Vaillant and Ronan Gladu. This boat is 33 meters long by 23 meters wide, it rests on foils and it already flies whole. This is the regatta prior to the important event for these boats, the Rum Route. It will surely be a contact regatta. At the start we have an upwind and a front that we have to turn to the west and then a fairly fast descent to the Canary Islands, even with a strong wind off the coast of Portugal. But it will be so much fun. The return will be less fun, with an upwind, practically five days, from the Canary Islands until reaching Concarneau again. I haven't sailed with the big multihulls since winter and I am very happy to be back together with this fleet and with my friends and rivals here in the north of French Brittany. I hope you will follow me, greetings to all and soon I will tell you how this experience of flying across the ocean in a regatta and in a fleet has gone”, commented Alex Pella before the start.
