February 06 from 2016 - 00: 00

A group of fans of the sport of climbing and lovers of the mountains have mobilized to show their rejection of the prohibition of climbing in the Natural Park Montgó.

Cova Ampla in Montgó

A few weeks ago the management of the Park unilaterally took the decision to withdraw the fixed material that allowed sport climbing in Cova Ampla. A restrictive measure that was done without seeking a consensus solution with itself Federació d 'esports de Muntanya i Climbing of the Valencian Community (FEMCV) without a prior report justifying or proving that negatively influences the park or its ecosystems.

These climbing enthusiasts have sent a letter to the management of the park asking that the ban be reconsidered. A sign written hikers and Pego Gata centers, mountain clubs Calp, Alpi Gandia, of the Polytechnic University of Valencia and partnership for sustainable climbing Entorns.

They have also asked the City Councils Xàbia and Dénia react and ensure that management in the Natural Park provide friendly practices that energize and thus cease to receive such protection as an obstacle. You need to be seen to have a protected space is really a value and an opportunity for the quality of life of the people who enjoy them.

This group notes that "prevent people from coming to the Parc Natural Montgó to make a respectful sport with the environment, as is the sport climbing is nothing but go against the Montgó own".

His opinion is that "If the towns of Denia, Javea Jesus Pobre and Gata live back to Montgó, if not perceive it as an opportunity, if you can not enjoy respectfully, the park lost. It limits its scope and function".

This group of mountain lovers want to make it clear that in no way intended to be put aside conservation objectives. "We are the first who are convinced that the protection and conservation of natural ecosystems is not a luxury but a priority need".

However, they insist that climbing is considered a respectful activity with the environment and, in fact, its practice is allowed in most of the Protected Natural Areas of our country, such as the Penyal d'Ifac, Penyagolosa, Sierra de Gredos, Ordesa y Monte Perdio National Park or Tinença de Benifassà, among others, or an international reference such as Yosemite.

Why they are willing to study the issue with those responsible for the park and to work together to, if necessary, establish regulatory measures activity "instead of exclusively prohibit climbing permit compatible with environmental protection".
