27.900 vaccines to fight the flu this year at Marina Alta

24 October 2017 - 12: 49

The flu virus has not yet made an appearance in the Marina Alta. For this reason, experts advise that now is the best time to get vaccinated. With this objective, the Dénia Health Department, which covers the entire Marina Alta, has 27.900 vaccines for this campaign among patients with chronic diseases, pregnant women, socio-health professionals and those over 60 years of age.

The presentation of the vaccination campaign against flu has taken place this morning at the health center of Ondara, where experts have encouraged the population to be vaccinated long enough for immunization to be effective.

The Head of the Department of Preventive Medicine of the Department of Health of Denia, Antonio Valdivia, has stated that "It is best to get vaccinated before the end of December, because the incidence of influenza is usually from January to March".

The citizens of the Marina Alta can get vaccinated in one of the more than 50 points enabled throughout the region, which are divided between Health Centers, Auxiliary Offices, Private Clinics, Mutual, Nursing Homes and Occupational Risk Prevention Services .

In the campaign last year, the Health Department Dénia provided 26.194 dose in the whole entire region, with vaccination coverage that came in the group of over 64 years, almost 48% and healthcare personnel, 71%, far exceeding the targets set.

The benefit obtained when health professionals are vaccinated is twofold: on the one hand, the risk of contracting the flu is reduced, and on the other, when the percentage of health professionals vaccinated in a basic area exceeds 60%, the risk of contagion decreases among the population.
